Liberty Elementary School’s colorful, annual Hispanic Heritage Month presentation was on full display Friday afternoon as students celebrated various Hispanic cultures.
The theme was “Traveling to the Hispanic Countries.”
Student participants dressed in traditional clothing and danced onstage in front of their peers. They also talked about famous Hispanic role models such as Lin-Manuel Miranda and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
LES Paraprofessional Yasmin Gonzalez has been over the event for seven years. To her surprise she was named as a role model and received an award.
Students performed a special dance in honor of those suffering in Puerto Rico due to the devastation of Hurricane Irma.
LES Paraprofessional Sheina Medina, who is Puerto Rican and dressed as a flight attendant, said the purpose of the dance is to bring joy.
