Four Long County High School students participated in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America’s 70thannual national leadership conference July 6-10 in San Antonio, Texas, with three of them bringing home medals.

Juniors Maegan DeLoach, Natalie Pattison and Hannah Williams and senior Cheyanne Kuzlik represented LCHS.

DeLoach, Pattison and Williams were among the members and took part in STAR Event competitions at the conference. These events represent college and career readiness skills taught in Family and Consumer Sciences classroom.

DeLoach, competing in teach and train, earned a silver medal for her project on skills needed to become a teacher, which included writing a lesson and teaching her second-period early childhood education class.

Pattison and Williams, competing in advocacy, received bronze medals for their project that focused on advocating for the deaf community.

The STAR Event portion had more than 4,200 participants.

“Going to Nationals in San Antonio was a wonderful experience and I am so proud of how well the students represented our county,” LCHS’s FCCLA adviser Bethany Gilliam said.
