Stacey Benaske of Ludowici will represent Savannah Technical College in the state GOAL competition.
It was previously announced that Kenisha Mobley was the college representative but Mobley will be unable to attend for personal reasons.
Benaske was the first runner up after a selection committee of six judges evaluated students based on speeches, interviews and instructor recommendations.
Benaske, 31, a marketing management student at the college’s Liberty campus, is the daughter of Sid and Linda Benaske of Mt. Pleasant, MI. She is co-owner of a graphics design and advertising specialties business called Elysium Graphics and Design.
She will receive a scholarship from the Student Activities Council, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Atlanta where, for three-days, she will compete with students from 38 other technical colleges and divisions in Georgia for the title of State GOAL Winner, the GOAL medallion, and a new car as the grand prize.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to spread the word about the benefits of technical education” Benaske said. “I started at Savannah Tech because I wanted to be an entrepreneur; a goal that I’ve been able to accomplish even before I graduate. I’m excited to represent the college and share my experience here with others.”
Benaske credits what she has learned as a marketing management student at Savannah Tech for her success as a small business owner.
“I was very proud when my marketing instructor came by to see the store” Benaske said. “He could see that I’d done everything he’d taught me and it worked.”
Mitchell Inman, head of the Marketing Management Department at the Liberty campus, nominated Benaske and will go with her to Atlanta.
