Liberty Countians will have a chance to express their opinions on the qualifications needed in a new school superintendent Jan.17.
The school system is holding a public forum that day at 6 p.m. at the board office and the coordinator of the superintendent search for the state school board association, Bill Sampson, will be there.
Board Chairman Lily Baker said, “We are holding this forum to get public input and we hope everyone interested will attend and present their questions and comments.”
Monday is the deadline for applications to be submitted, and anyone can nominate a potential superintendent on forms available at www.gsba.com/forms/nsupt_nomination.html.
Here are the specifications the Liberty gave the GSBA to conduct the search:
• It is preferred that applicants possess or be eligible for the L-7 level certification. (Eligibility information is available from the Division of Certification, Professional Standards Commission, Two Peachtree Street, Suite 6000, Atlanta, GA 30303; 404/657-9000 or www.gapsc.com).
• Successful experience as a superintendent is preferred.
• Experience as a principal and as a classroom teacher in a public school is preferred.
• The Board wishes to consider applicants from any region of the United States.
• Applicants should have a documented history of leadership in community organizations and other community affairs, as well as through public speaking and other oral communications.
• Applicants must have outstanding experience, understanding, and abilities relating to the areas of administration, curriculum and personnel.
• Applicants must have a team-building approach to educational leadership, committed to fostering cooperative relations between the school district, the board of education, and community leaders and organizations.
• Applicants must be able to work cooperatively with the Board and community visibly involved in school and community activities.
• Applicants must be knowledgeable about school law and legal issues facing public schools.
• Applicants must have a proven record of sound fiscal management, experienced and knowledgeable in budgeting and educational finance.
• Applicants must be proficient in the use of technology.
