LUDOWICI - Vivian Griffis was recently named Teacher of the Year by parents and fellow teachers at Smiley Elementary School.
Griffis has been teaching in Long County for 14 years. Through the years, she has taught PE, fourth and first grade and kindergarten.
Having had a stroke eight years ago, she did not know if she would be able to teach again. However, two years later she was back at school and teaching like never before.
"One thing about Mrs. Griffis is that she always has a smile on her face," Smiley Principal Sandy Jones said. "She enjoys teaching and enjoys the kids. Parents, students and teachers love her."
Griffis is a Long County native, but currently lives in Jesup. She is married to Brian Griffis and they have two sons, Cory and Zachary. During her spare time, Griffis vacations at Daytona Beach, keeps scrapbooks and spends time with her family.
