April Lovette Whitaker, the daughter of County Commissioner Donald Lovette, recently was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society, Alpha Theta Psi Chapter, at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn.
The main goal of Alpha Sigma Lambda is “to recognize the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work.”
Membership in this organization allows students to apply for scholarships, take part in a private social network and purchase honor stoles and cords.
Forty percent of Austin Peay’s students are non-traditional, and APSU recognizes the challenges non-traditional students face. This organization is the first honor society at APSU geared toward adult learners.
To be eligible for membership, students must be in the top 20 percent of all students who have earned a minimum of 30 college-level semester hours at APSU and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2. Membership in Alpha Theta Psi is by invitation only.
