DeAngela Williams, 12, and Gregory Anthony, 12, both sixth-graders at Lewis Frasier Middle School, attended the 2011 Junior National Young Leaders Conference on March 26-31 in Washington, D.C.
Williams was nominated by her language arts teacher, Loraine Bush. Anthony was nominated by his math teacher, Carol Corwin.
The students were recognized for their maturity, character strength and scholastic merit.
While at the leadership conference, they visited several national monuments, including the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the National Museum of American History.
Students also took a Capitol Hill walking tour and visited Harpers Ferry and the Maryland Science Center.
“My stay at Junior National Young Leaders Conference was very exciting and extremely influential to me because it helped enhance my leadership skills by telling me what to expect as a future leader for our country and how to accomplish my goals that are set for my life,” Anthony said.
