Students earn honors

For his academic performance during fall semester 2013, Carlos Manuel Feliciano of Ludowici was named to the University of North Georgia dean’s list. Students who earn a 3.5 grade point average and carry 12 or more credit hours in one semester are eligible for the dean’s list. Students also must have no grade lower than B.

Local students honored at National SkillsUSA Championships
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Amanda Allen of Hinesville and Shondai Dunbar of Fort Stewart, both students at Savannah Technical College, recently were honored at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference.
Allen was awarded a skill point certificate in technical computer applications, and Dunbar was awarded a college/postsecondary bronze medal in nurse assisting.
Industry leaders representing more than 1,100 businesses, corporations, trade associations and unions recognized the students for their demonstrated excellence in 98 hands-on occupational and leadership contests.
Top student winners received gold, silver and bronze medallions. The SkillsUSA Championships is for high school and college-level students who are members of SkillsUSA.
“Over 6,000 students from every state in the nation came to compete in the SkillsUSA Championships this week,” SkillsUSA Executive Director Tim Lawrence said. “This is the SkillsUSA partnership at its best. Students, instructors and industries are working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce and every student excels. These students prove that career and technical education expands opportunities.”

Hinesville student honored at AASU ceremony
Nekecia Barnes of Hinesville, a student at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, recently was honored during AASU’s spring 2013 Student Awards Convocation. Barnes earned the College of Liberal Arts Calliope “Unhinged” Award.
