Coastal Electric Cooperative wants to find three high school students who want to develop their leadership skills and send them on the 2008 Washington Youth Tour, June 12 through 19.
The Washington Youth Tour is far more than a sightseeing trip. Just ask Ashley Huerd, a senior at Bradwell Institute who attended last summer. "My views were affected in the way that I learned that friendship can make leadership a fun, yet serious, experience." Huerd said, in regards to how the trip affected her view on leadership. She was also struck by how close she became with the other students. "Just because you met someone for the first time you can still have a close connection with them within days," she said.
This is a one-week, all-expenses-paid, jam-packed leadership experience in our nation's capital. Students who are selected for the Washington Youth Tour receive a $1,000 scholarship for their college or technical school education. The alternate receives a $500 scholarship.
The competition is open to current high school juniors who will be at least 16 years of age by the time of the tour and who live in Liberty County, south Bryan County and McIntosh. The students selected for the tour will join nearly 100 other students in Georgia and meet hundreds of teens from around the nation in Washington D.C. The deadline to apply is Feb. 20.
