Walker Middle School FBLA members recently participated in a pet shelter community service project.

Members were asked to donate items to help take care of shelter animals that have been abandoned. Items needed included paper towels and bleach for cleaning the living areas, blankets to keep the animals warm, buckets for water and bowls for food.

FBLA collected a dozen bottles of bleach, 30 rolls of paper towels, several blankets, dog food, cat food, buckets and toys for the animals. A representative from Save Our Souls Animal Shelter came to the school to collect the donations. She also brought a shelter dog to show the students. This project was beneficial to the FBLA members because they learned the importance of helping others. It also helped more than 70 animals currently at the Save Our Souls shelter.

In addition, on Oct. 31, club members had their annual Halloween social and costume contest. Around 50 students participated in the social and 30 students entered the contest. Kirsten Kirk won most creative for her Jelly Belly costume; Ron Dumas won best overall for his Future Sumo Business Leader of America costume, and Angel Stritzinger won cutest for her detective costume.
