Fire destroys home, displaces one

Firefighters responded to a blaze at 12:48 a.m. Saturday morning where a home was destroyed by a fire. The Walthourville Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 5000 block of Holmestown Rd, now Freddie Walthour Sr. Rd.

Units from Liberty County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find a fully engulfed residence and all occupants evacuated safely. There were also two vehicles on fire and the siding on the adjacent structure was melting. The Walthourville Fire Department arrived and began a defensive operation and had the fire under control in 11 minutes. The fire was fully extinguished within an hour.

 Fire crews had no hydrants in the area and were assisted by Liberty County Fire Service from stations 15 and 20, the Riceboro Volunteer Fire Department, and the City of Hinesville Fire Department. Liberty County Sheriff’s Office secured the scene while fire operations were going on and Coastal Electric EMC secured the power.

There were no injuries reported and one occupant was displaced and being helped by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
