vToday is the final day for residents hoping to run in this summer's county partisan primaries to qualify to have their names placed on the July 15 ballot.
Potential candidates have until noon to file their notices of candidacies with the Liberty County Voter Registration Office, where candidates and interested residents have been "in and out of the office" checking to see who has qualified, Liberty County Chief Registrar Ella Golden said.
As of Thursday, there were few surprises on the list of qualifiers, which included mostly incumbents such as county commission Chairman John McIver and Chief Magistrate Melinda Anderson. The only newcomers on the list are three, challenging Liberty County Sheriff Don Martin, and Gary Gilliard, who as of Thursday was unopposed to replace outgoing District 5 Commissioner Kenny Fussell.
The only seat left without any qualifiers is state court judge, currently held by Leon Braun Jr.
Anyone with questions or concerns about the process can stop by the registrar's office at 102 S. Commerce St. in Hinesville or call the office at 876-3310.
