UPDATE: List of closures ahead of storm

Liberty County School System is closing schools Thursday and Friday in advance of Hurricane Ian.

Long County School System will be closed Thursday and Friday for students and staff. Fort Stewart schools also will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Savannah Technical College will be closing all its campuses Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and campuses will remain closed Friday and Saturday..

Liberty and Long counties' health departments will suspend operations Thursday and Friday, and all Coastal Health District offices will close Thursday and Friday.

The Coastal Health District expects to resume normal operations on Monday, October 3.

The Live Oak Public Libraries have announced all branches will be closed Thursday through Sunday.

Georgia Southern University will go to online classes Thursday starting at 1 p.m. and closing all campuses at that time, Campuses also will be closed Friday.

Senior Citizens Inc. Neighborhood Centers in Thunderbolt, Port Wentworth, and Hinesville will be closed both Thursday and Friday. Meals on Wheels clients will not receive their regularly-scheduled meal deliveries on Friday, September 30, and should eat the shelf-stable meals delivered to them earlier in the week.

As a result of Tropical Storm Ian, Hinesville City Hall and the Municipal Courts will be closed at 12 noon, Thursday, September 29, and all-day Friday, September 30. Normal operating hours will resume on Monday, October 3.

Trash services will be suspended and are expected to resume on Saturday, October 1.

Public transit and paratransit service will be suspended and will resume on Monday, October 3.The Liberty County School System has cancelled or rescheduled several games planned for this weekend due to Hurricane Ian.


Walthourville’s Police Department has rescheduled their Breast Cancer Breakfast “No One Fights Alone” from Oct. 1 to Oct. 8, due to weather. The event will be held at the Walthourville Police Department on from 9-11 a.m. Breakfast will be served. Follow the event details on Walthourville Police Facebook page.

The Seabrook  Village Foundation has cancelled Saturday's meeting and will reschedule it for a later date.
