Happy Earth Day as a global event turns 50
Karen Bell
Keep Liberty Beautiful Executive Director Karen Bell.

Happy Earth Day!!

Today, April 22, 2020, Liberty County joins millions of people around the world in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of International Earth Day.

This year due to COVID-19, our Earth Day Celebration is being accomplished differently. We are not hosting a wide variety of games, crafts, displays, and activities, which is usually our biggest education event of the year!

We would have had our Advisory Board and hundreds of volunteers coming out to share their talents in this mission of undercover environmental education disguised as fun.  So, we have come up with other ways to educate our community and still have fun doing it.  I also believe having great giveaways, and an opportunity for our Liberty County community to show off their creativity and passion about the earth doesn’t hurt either.

This year we are doing a lot more on our social media accounts.

For Earth Day, we have activities on Facebook and Instagram every day for youth and adults to win Earth Day T-Shirts or an Earth Day Surprise Kit.

We are also reading and doing arts and crafts every other day on Facebook.

Make sure to like Keep Liberty Beautiful Facebook and Instagram pages to keep up to date with KLB activities.

As a Keep America Beautiful affiliate since 1983, Keep Liberty Beautiful is a community education, volunteer action program focusing on Ending Litter, Increasing Recycling and Waste Reduction, Beautifying our Community, and Stormwater Pollution and Water Conservation Education.

We aim to inspire community leaders, civic and business leaders, and local citizens to create a vibrant community that is attractive, clean, and green.

We want Liberty County citizens to be enthusiastic about the appearance and health of their environment.

In the spirit of community improvement and beautification, which are essential programming areas for Keep Liberty Beautiful, we have partnered with the Hinesville Area Board of Realtors to recognize attractive yards.

Each quarter a realtor will recommend a yard. That homeowner will receive a Yard Of The Quarter sign to display for the quarter, a $25.00 gift card, a Keep Liberty Beautiful Bag filled with goodies, and a Yard Of The Quarter Certificate.

The 2020 2nd Yard of the Quarter winner is Congratulations to Ms. Lindsey Gaskin in Midway! Also, because it is Earth Day, we would like to Congratulate Charity Williams in Hinesville for showing Home Proud.  Both, Lindsey and Charity took pride in maintaining their home and yard.  This quarter I, along with Nikki Gaskin, a realtor from Coldwell Banker Southern Coast, helped, select the quarter winners! Thank You!

Keep Liberty Beautiful embraces the goal of Keep America Beautiful: To engage individuals in taking greater responsibility for improving their community environments. During this time of COVID-19, please stay safe and well.
