Health department to offer free breast exams
Coastal Health District logo

The Liberty County Health Department will offer free breast exams on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 3 and 4, 2023, at the clinic at 1113 East Oglethorpe Highway in Hinesville. The screening event is open to all women aged 40 and older by appointment. You can schedule an appointment by calling the Liberty County Health Department at (912) 876-2173.

There is no cost for the breast exam. Eligible women can also be referred for a free mammogram through the health department’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP).

BCCP provides access to breast and cervical cancer screening for women who have no insurance (or very limited insurance) and meet certain annual income guidelines. The program provides breast examinations and mammogram referrals for qualifying women aged 40 and older, and pap smear testing and pelvic examinations to screen for cervical cancer in women 21-64 years of age.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in woman after skin cancer. It is estimated about one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. The earlier breast cancer is detected, the easier it is to treat, which is why regular, routine screenings are so important.
