Highway 84 expansion moves ahead

Earlier this week, the Liberty Consolidated Planning Commission, along with the Atlanta consulting firm Reynolds Smith and Hills Inc., hosted a meeting that was open to business owners and county residents who could be affected by the US 84/SR 38 median construction plan.
In the near future, the LCPC and its consultants will revise and finalize the alternatives, bring the plan before the public and stakeholders this May and develop a prioritized action plan by June.
Of the 140 people attending the meeting, the crowd included city and county officials and various mayors, including Thomas Ratcliffe of Hinesville, Don Emmons of Midway and Henry Frasier of Walthourville.
“I think this proposal coincides with Midway’s master plan as we continue and prepare for the ongoing development in the area,” Emmons said. “This plan should have a favorable impact because the safety of the major roadways needs to increase as the county perpetually grows in size.”
Mayor Frasier was slightly more hesitant because he wants to make sure the concerns of his townspeople are adequately addressed.
“There a few people who aired their concerns to me,” Frasier said. “...But when the people are satisfied with it, then I will be satisfied with it.  It sounds like a good idea though because it has the ability to save lives.”
