The City of Hinesville, the Hinesville Fire Department and local leaders celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new HFD Fire Station One on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

The new 17,000-square-foot fire house and 5,500-square-foot administration building will replace the existing Fire Station One, located on Liberty Street. The architecture of the new brick building was designed to fit with the aesthetic of downtown and to fit the staffing and equipment needs of the Hinesville Fire Department.

Hinesville Fire Chief Robert Kitchings said the new building is a statement of growth for the city.

“And the city has to keep up with that growth,” he said.

Kitchings added that the newer, larger building will allow the department to bring in more specialized equipment needed to combat fires in the community. He said the current building was built in 1978.

As Mayor Allen Brown praised the HFD for all of its hard work and dedication, he stated, “This will be a first-class facility, which is only fitting for our first-class Fire Department.”

The project will be funded utilizing city SPLOST funds.
