The Hinesville City Council approved the submission of a grant to the Georgia Municipal Association on behalf of the Hinesville Police Department and Hinesville Fire Department. That grant is being submitted to obtain in-car video cameras for the HPD and two thermal kits for the HFD. The request was approved. City council members also approved an $188,892 bid for a new Dry Trash Combo Truck for the Sanitation Department.

Council members voted in approval of purchasing land along Commerce Street in order to relocate Hinesville Fire Station No. 1. The current fire station is located at 103 Liberty Street. According to Councilmember Jason Floyd, breaking ground for the new site will begin “soon.”

The city council was due to vote for appointments to the Historic Preservation Commission, Hinesville Housing Authority Board, and the Live Oak Library. However, with a lack of information on recommended appointees, councilmembers decided to postpone all appointments until their next meeting.

Liberty County Emergency Management Agency’s Director Larry Logan gave a presentation about hurricane preparedness. He touched on several points, including informing the public on what he said was a much asked question within the community. Logan made it clear that Hinesville does not have an emergency siren. In its place, Logan suggested signing up for “Alert Liberty.” This is an alert program that, in the event of emergency, will send calls, texts, or emails to users about crucial information.
