Hinesville Council appoints Floyd Mayor Pro Tempore

Hinesville City Council appointed Jason Floyd as Mayor Pro Tempore, acting Mayor, for the remainder of the year. Mayor Pro Tempore performs all Mayoral duties with all the powers of the Mayor in the case that the Mayor is not present to perform the duties of the office. The nomination was presented by Mayor Allen Brown and was voted on and approved by council members. 

The council also appointed members of the Ethics Committee. Councilwoman Diana Reid appointed Cecile Rock and Wilhelmina Brown. Councilman Jason R. Floyd appointed Mark Hendrix, while Councilman Karl A. Riles reappointed Linda Richardson. The appointed members will be receiving training for their positions. 

David Anderson has been reappointed to the Coastal Regional Commission Aging Services Advisory Council. His term expires June 30, and has been renewed for a three-year term. 

The council approved the authorization to submit the 2019-2023 Consolidation Plan to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). To date, the Community Development Department will be receiving $215,576 for the 2019 allotment of funds which assists public service agencies, Irene B Thomas park improvements and fair house incentives. 

The request to adopt Resolution #2019-14 in support of the FY2020 Transportation Alternatives Grant (TAP) Application was approved. 

Michelle Ricketson, former executive director of the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority, worked her final day on June 14. According to Hinesville Public Relations Manager Whitney Morris-Reed, interviews are still being held to fill the position HDDA executive director position, and an announcement will be made once a decision has been made.
