Historic survey in downtown area
Placeholder Image
Hinesville has received a certified local government survey and planning grant from the historic preservation division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to have a historic resources survey prepared for the downtown commercial district and neighboring residential areas.
The survey, which will form the basis for future preservation planning, will be conducted by Quatrefoil Consulting of Savannah in consultation with the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority and the Hinesville Historic Preservation Commission.
The survey will take an inventory of all historic resources in Hinesville’s historic downtown core. During the field survey each historic resource that meets the survey criteria (50 years old and retaining a qualifying degree of historic integrity) will be photographed, a survey form completed, its location marked on a community base map and keyed to the survey form. A final report will be prepared that will include a survey overview.
The project will take approximately six months to complete. The field survey portion of the project began in November.
