The Hinesville Police Department arrest in a purse theft case led to the arrest of another suspect and persons of interest in three burglaries.

On Jan. 17, 2019 a 77-year-old disabled woman had her purse stolen from her possession. The victim was attempting to move from one motorized handicap shopping cart to another when a white man grabbed her purse out of the cart’s basket. The suspect fled the scene in a dark colored vehicle in the parking lot.

When the officers responded to the incident, a robbery investigation was initiated and theylearned the suspects were involved in numerous other incidents throughout Southeast Georgia. On Jan. 28, 2019, the first suspect, Jonathan Devillars, was located and arrested at a gas station on E.G. Miles Parkway.

Devillars’ arrest led to the arrest of the second suspect, Gary Goldinger, at a local hotel. After both suspects were in custody, multiple law enforcement agencies were able to recover three stolen weapons and one stolen crossbow. This also resulted in the suspects being identified as persons of interest in three burglaries, entering auto, shoplifting, possession of a stolen financial transaction cards and multiple forgery and identity theft incidents.

Both Devillars and Goldinger were brought before a Liberty County magistrate judge where their bond was denied.
