A truck fire on I-95 early Friday morning in Riceboro reportedly destroyed a military family’s belongings.

Riceboro Fire and Rescue Chief Dennise Fitzgerald, an Army veteran, said the fire occurred around 1:30 a.m. on I-95 south. He said the driver told him he heard a pop from the rear of the trailer, pulled over and found a wheel was on fire. The driver was able to unhook the trailer.

When firefighters arrived the trailer was fully engulfed in flames. Fitzgerald said the trailer contain furniture, photos, household items and mementos, none of which were salvageable.

He did not know who owned the contents of the trailer or where they were from, or headed.
