With more than 34 years in law enforcement, Hinesville Interim Police Chief Bill Kirkendall was presented the Georgia Police Accreditation Coalition Meritorious service award June 27 in a ceremony held in Young Harris.

Kirkendall was keynote speaker for the annual event.

In a letter sent to Kirkendall by GPAC President Lea Elam, Elam writes:

“I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected to receive the 10th Annual GPAC Meritorious Service Award for your excellence and dedication to the CALEA Accreditation, Georgia State Certification, and the Georgia Police Accreditation Coalition. Your dedication to the accreditation and certification processes is unmatched and we are so thankful to express our gratitude to you.”

Kirkendall has served as the city of Hinesville’s interim police chief since March. “To be recognized by your peers with such an amazing award is truly humbling,” he said. “I was surprised when I got the letter and when I was asked to speak at the annual banquet.

Being a member of a state certified agency means the department strives to maintain a high level of professionalism and I am very proud of the Hinesville Police Department.”
