Traveling to and from Savannah from Hinesville will be a little different starting Tuesday
As part of the Highway 196 widening project, contractor R.B. Baker will shift traffic from the current alignment onto the new lanes beginning in the Fleming area and continuing to the intersection with Highway 17. A new ramp onto 196 West off 17 will also be opened to traffic.
The pavement will be striped for no passing and the speed limit will be 45 mph.
The work is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. Tuesday. The traffic shift will allow the continuance of work on the construction project.
The DOT reminds motorists the area is a work zone and they should slow down.
You can call DOT's 511 hotline for updates about this or any other construction project on interstates and state routes. More information is also available at www.511ga.org.
