State Rep. Al Williams , D-Midway, was recently appointed by Speaker David Ralston, R-Blue Ridge, to serve as a member of the Georgia Joint Defense Commission.
“I am incredibly honored to be appointed to this important commission by Speaker Ralston,” Williams said.
“Georgia’s military population and installations are tremendous economic drivers in our state, and it is critical that we continue to sustain and further develop this vital industry.
I look forward to sharing my experiences as a Vietnam veteran and a member of the House Military Affairs Working Group with my fellow commission members as we work to protect, support and grow Georgia’s military.”
Established by Senate Bill 395, the Georgia Joint Defense Commission will advise the governor and Georgia General Assembly on defense and military issues with the goal of supporting the long-term viability and development of the military, both active-duty and civilian, in Georgia.
