LCDA members fail to connect

The Liberty County Development Authority attempted a meeting Thursday, but the only clear decision reached was to try to meet again at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Authority Chairman Allen Brown and members Brian Smith and Jeff Arnold showed up on time, and Hinesville Mayor Tom Ratcliffe and County Commission Chairman John McIver were to participate by telephone.
The authority’s new electronic teleconferencing audiovisual system is not quite debugged yet and the members at LCDA headquarters were able to hear McIver and Racliffe — most of the time — but the two phone-linked members seemed not to be able to hear each other.
The topic of the meeting was water strategy and McIver clearly felt the subject needed more discussion. After much consulting of calendars and schedules, another meeting was set to take place — in person or by telephone — Wednesday.
Four authority members are the minimum needed to conduct business.
Other members of the seven-man authority are Graylan Quarterman and state Rep. Al Williams.t
