The Liberty County School System is excited to host National Teacher of the Year, Kurt Russell, for this year’s staff convocation. The convocation will be held at 8:15AM and then again at 9:45AM on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at the Bradwell Institute gym to accommodate all staff safely.

The purpose of the convocation is to bring all LCSS employees together for a time of celebration to kick off the new school year. Employees will arrive as a united force, dressed in their school specific or department attire and will be welcomed to the event by our high school drumlines and cheerleaders. The time is meant to inspire, strengthen unity, and realign all staff to the mission and vision of the Liberty County School System.

The 2022 National Teacher of the Year, Mr. Kurt Russell, will provide the inspiration for the event. Mr. Russell, a 25-year veteran of the classroom, was first inspired to become a teacher in middle school, when he encountered his first Black male teacher. Now as 2022 National Teacher of the Year, he plans to advocate for students and teachers for experiences that will guide them toward success in the future.

He was greeted at the White House recently by the President and even featured on Good Morning with Gayle King. For more information, contact Cathy Lane, Director of Public Relations, at (912) 876-5966 or (912) 321-1942 or by email at clane@liberty.k12.ga.us.
