Leadership Liberty seeks nominations

The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce is asking for nominations for the 2018-19 Leadership Liberty class.

Participants meet at least once a month for nine months to learn about functions of the community: county and city government, public health, public education, tourism, economic development and more. One session includes overnight travel to Atlanta to learn about the state and meet with elected leaders.

Applications are available starting July 1.

The cost is $700 and includes overnight accommodations and food, as well as transportation to Atlanta. Since its inception in 2004-05, Leadership Liberty has graduated 100 participants who either live or work in the county. These participants have garnered knowledge from various sectors of the community, as well as taken part in lessons provided by the Fanning Institute of Leadership at the University of Georgia.

“I strongly encourage our business and community leaders to take part in this program, so that better relationships between the business community and our local government can be built,” Chamber CEO Leah Poole said. “I believe it is very valuable learning how local government entities work and the huge challenges a growing community like Liberty County faces. Leadership Liberty can provide insight on the job our elected officials have to do and how important non-governmental organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce are to the success of our county.”
