The Liberty County Cultural and Historic Resources was created by the Board of Commissioners in 2006 to inventory and map historic resources throughout Liberty County. The purpose of developing and maintaining this inventory of historic resources is to educate the public and the Planning Commission in order to minimize potential adverse impacts on these resources arising from zoning, development and land disturbing activities.

In 2021, the Liberty County Cultural and Historic Resources Committee marked its 15th year and completed a 3-year update of the Liberty County Historic Resources Inventory. Additionally, the Committee completed its annual cleaning and inspection of Liberty County’s 80 historic markers. The Committee meets six times per year in the offices of the LCPC at 11:30a.m. on the first Monday of every odd month.

Members are volunteers who are appointed annually by the Liberty County Board of Commissioners. Applications to serve on the committee are available at the Board of Commissioners office. For more information about the Liberty County Cultural and Historic Resources Committee, please contact Chairman Phil Odom at 912-6589053 or kpo1951@gmail. com.
