Liberty County jail employee arrested for taking funds

A Liberty County Jail employee has been arrested and charged theft of government property according to Liberty Country Sheriffs Office, Major Jeff Hein.

According to Hein,  on Aug. 15,  a discrepancy of $190 was discovered in a bank deposit from the Liberty County Jail.  Sheriff Steve Sikes immediately ordered  an internal investigation into any possible criminal violations.  During the course of the investigation an admission was made by an administrative clerk that the funds were taken illegally.  On Tuesday, Aug. 21, Breanna Ferry was arrested and charged with one count of Theft of Government Property, a felony.  Ferry, who made a first appearance hearing before a magistrate, was ordered to place a bond of $3000 which has been posted.  Ferry's employment with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office has been terminated.

Sikes said in a press release,  “I hold in high regard the trust placed in me by the citizens of Liberty County, and when one person violates that trust, it casts a dark cloud upon us all.  Actions of this nature will not be tolerated, and will be prosecuted according to the law.”
