Liberty County School System teachers and administrators have begun implementing a multi-tiered behavior prevention and intervention framework known as CHOICES (Children Having Options to Inspire Continuous Elevated Success) for the 2014-2015 school year.  The behavior framework blends Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) with the Response to Intervention (RTI) framework to provide a holistic approach to student behavioral interventions. CHOICES, which consists of four levels of interventions, is laying the foundation for positive school climates and exceptional student achievement.

CHOICES has made a positive impression on teachers and staff in Liberty County schools.  Fifth grade teachers at Liberty Elementary School have dived into implementing student data notebooks for behavior.  Students are able to participate in a daily writing reflection regarding their behavior and set behavior goals for future participation in an intrinsic reward system.  They are encouraged to monitor their own behavior and create graphs that demonstrate progress. This practice encourages all students to maintain Level 1 behavior status that supports PBIS in all areas of the school.

Mr. Wes Register, LCSS Behavior Modification Specialist, stated, “Teachers, school counselors, and administrators are catching the vision for CHOICES.  They are experiencing this multi-level approach which provides them with greater resources through team collaboration at the school level, as well as the full support of the central office.”
