Local church hosts public forum Sept. 6
Hinesville First United Methodist Church

Hinesville First United Methodist Church will host a forum on the topic of human sexuality tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

The following is a statement from Bishop Lawson Bryan, resident bishop of the South Georgia Area of the United Methodist Church:

“I am grateful to the First United Methodist Church of Hinesville for hosting this gathering of representatives from churches throughout the Coastal District of the South Georgia Conference. It will be a visible expression of our South Georgia Conference theme, “Alive Together in Christ.” The United Methodist Church has a long history of engaging with key issues through the guidance of Scripture and drawing on the resources of tradition, reason and experience. This meeting will provide information about the special session of General Conference this coming February and its focus on matters of human sexuality. Our gathering in Hinesville is one of hundreds being held all over the world at United Methodists engage in prayer and discernment in preparation for the special called session of General Conference. My prayer is that we shall experience anew the meaning of John Wesley’s paraphrase of 2 Kings 10:15, “If your heart is as my heart, give me your hand.”
