Fort Stewart’s 3rd Infantry Division held a ceremonial “casing of the colors" Friday at Marne Gardens as some 250 members of the 3rd ID – including its top commander, Maj. Gen. Leopoldo Quintas – prepared to deploy to Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan in support of Operations’ Resolute Support and Freedom Sentinel.

Prior to the ceremony, Quintas, along with other commanders and top noncommissioned officers, held a roundtable with the media to discuss the deployment, which is part of an effort to “assist, train and support” Afghanistan’s military.

More on the ceremony and the reason 3rd ID soldiers are deploying yet again in the Coastal Courier print edition Sunday.
