Robert Bell, 73, of Allenhurst, has been picking up trash on the side of the road in Liberty County since the 1980s.

He started on South Main Extension when it was still a dirt road and now begins at Country Manor Trailer Park and goes as far as Highway 84 at Dunlevie Road.

Bell, who is from Tattnall County and attended school in Bellville, said he does it to have something to do, “and sometimes my wife runs by to make sure that’s what I’m doing.”

It hasn’t gone unnoticed. People have stopped to give Bell candy, food and water over the years as a thanks for what he does. That seems only fair.
