The Georgia Department of Transportation awarded a $301,815 federal funding allocation to MCRA to cover designs for a runway extension, parallel taxiway and flight landing system instruments.

County Administrator Joey Brown said the project requires a local match of $7,942. The project was contemplated under the T-SPLOST referendum.

The work will be performed by CDM Smith, a merged engineering firm that includes former airport engineer Wilbur Smith Associates.

Though subject to change, the approximate cost for the work is $317,700, Brown said.
