For most children, Christmas is a time of joy and happiness. But for 6-year-old Addie Fausett, this year it’s mostly struggle and pain.
The Salt Lake City, Utah, girl has been living with an undiagnosed disease that has stunted her growth since she was 3. This year, the disease caused a cerebral atrophy and, according to doctors, this probably will be the child’s last Christmas.
With this prognosis, her parents asked her what she wanted for Christmas. Their daughter told them all she wanted was to receive Christmas cards from all over the world.
Students from Long County High School who are members of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America learned of her request and decided to help. Club members gathered and made cards to send to her.
Club President Maegan DeLoach said they wanted to do all that they could to make the child’s last Christmas as special as possible.
“Christmas is about giving and making others feel loved, and we should do our part to make a difference,” DeLoach said.
According to an Associated Press report, since Fausett made her request, she receives around 1,200 cards every day.
“In FCCLA, family is a top priority, and our goal here was to touch the heart of one,” DeLoach said.
