Arthur could become a hurricane by July 4.

The National Weather Service in Charleston issued a Tropical Storm Alert for Arthurs at 11:20 a.m.

A tropical storm warning is now in effect for parts of the coastal area of Georgia and North and South Carolina.

At 11 a.m. EST. the center of tropical storm Arthur was located near latitude 29.1north and longitude 79.1west placing Arthur about 250 miles South-southeast of Charleston, S.C. or about 230 miles South-southeast of Savannah.

Arthur is forecasted to strengthen into a hurricane as it moves north tonight and Thursday. It will pass just east of our local area on Thursday before accelerating to the northeast Thursday night. Tropical storm force wind gusts are expected across portions of the coastal waters tonight and Thursday.
