As Hurricane Matthew approaches the area with sustained winds at 110 miles per hour, several area events are being cancelled or rescheduled. Local government offices and businesses are also scheduling early closures. Here is what we have so far.

The game between Bradwell and Brunswick, slated for 6 p.m. Thursday, has now been cancelled per Bradwell Institute Athletic Director Ken Griffin.

Thursday's game between Liberty County High School and Tattnall County has been resecheduled to Monday at 6 p.m. in Reidsville. Long County's football game has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Monday.

Liberty County Schools issued this press release saying the Liberty County School System will be closed to both staff and students on Thursday and Friday of this week (10/6/16 –10/7/16). This cancellation includes all athletic and afterschool activities. The school system will maintain normal hours and planned activities for Wednesday, October 5, 2016. Staff should plan to report back to work on October 11, 2016 with students returning on October 12, 2016 as previously scheduled.

First Presbyterian Christian Academy have cancelled all classes and activities as of Thursday.

Long County Schools have cancelled class Friday.

The City of Hinesville Healthy 5K, which was set for Saturday, is being rescheduled for Nov. 5 and currently registered participants will be automatically transferred to the Nov. 5 run. Runners who cannot make the rescheduled date can either contribute their registration as a donation to patients at Georgia Regional Hospital or can request a refund by emailing their contact information to bmcclure@cityofhinesville.org.

Based on the National Hurricane Center’s latest projection for Hurricane Matthew, all classes at Armstrong State University’s main campus in Savannah and the Armstrong Liberty Center in Hinesville will be canceled as of noon today. Both locations will close at 3 p.m. today. All residence halls will close at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Classes and normal business operations will resume on Monday, October 10 at 8 a.m. All events on campus – including Armstrong’s Pirate Preview event and U.S. Marine Band Concert, originally planned for Saturday – are also canceled. The safety of students, faculty and staff is our top priority at Armstrong. We will continue to monitor developments with Hurricane Matthew closely and will issue further updates as needed. The following closures and cancellations effecting YMCA of Coastal Georgia operations on Wednesday, October 5th.  The Liberty County YMCA will be closed. All youth sports practices will be cancelled. AM and PM Pryme Tyme is cancelled.

The Liberty County/ Armed Services YMCA Child watch and Mother’s Morning Out will be closed on Thursday, October 6th. The Liberty County/ Armed Services YMCA will be closed on Friday, October 7th. All youth sports programs will be cancelled through Saturday, October 8th.

Due to Hurricane Matthew the Jesup Bamboo Festival is now scheduled for Oct. 15th. Sponsored by the Southeast Chapter of the American Bamboo Society, the Bamboo Festival will take on Oct. 15, from 9a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Wayne County Farmers Market in Jesup. Local bamboo growers will be present to offer advice on growing bamboo. They will have an offering of live plants for sale. In addition to the bamboo growers, several local artists and craftspeople will be showcasing their work. The event is open to the public and free of charge. The Kirk Healing Center Awards Banquet scheduled for Thursday evening has been postponed due to weather conditions. The new date will be announced soon. Current ticket holders are asked to hold on to their tickets for the rescheduled date. 

The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce Low Country Boil is being rescheduled to Oct. 14. Cocktail hour is 6-7pm and food service begins at 7pm. If you are unable to make it and have already RSVPd please email operations@libertycounty.org to arrange a refund or invoice cancellation. All cancellations must be received by Tuesday, October 11th close of business. We will continue to take RSVPs until Tuesday, October 11th close of business.

 Life Oak Public Libraries will be closed Thursday and Friday. 

Paws in the Park, which was set for Saturday, will be rescheduled for Oct. 29 at Bryant Commons.

The local Division of Driver's License Office is closed until Tuesday.

Liberty County government offices are closed Friday. They will re-open Tuesday.

City of Hinesville City Hall will continue with normal operating hours through today and will close Friday. 

Liberty Transit will continue to run through today and will close tomorrow. 

Normal operating hours for all buildings and services will resume on Monday.

The City of Hinesville will not have trash pick up Friday. Friday’s pickup will take place on Monday, Monday’s on Tuesday, Tuesday’s on Wednesday and so forth.

The Office of the Clerk of the Courts of Liberty County will be closed October 7th, 2016, due to inclement weather and October 10thfor the Columbus Day Holiday. They will reopen for regular business hours on October 11th at 8:30 am. 

The Postal Service has suspended mail delivery and retail operations in some coastal areas now affected by the approach of Hurricane Matthew, including the Fernandina Beach Post Office, located 1997 Sadler Rd., Fernandina Beach, FL 32034. 

On Friday, Oct. 7, Post Offices in North Florida and South Georgia with the first three ZIP code digits beginning with 322, 320, 315, 314 and 313 will be closed on Friday and Saturday.  There will be no mail delivery, mail collections or retail services available.  Full Post Office operations for these locations will resume at the normal time on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the day after the Columbus Day Holiday.  

The Postal Service will observe the Columbus Day Holiday on Monday, Oct. 10.  All offices will be closed and there will be no regular mail delivery, mail collections or retail services.
