Liberty County Coroner Reginald L. Pierce Sr. was named Coroner of the Year by the Georgia Coroners Association at its annual conference Sunday and Monday in Macon.

First elected coroner in 2004, Pierce has served on the executive board of the association and as its president in 2014.

“Reginald’s dedication of service to his community and his leadership and vision were the primary factors which lead to being awarded this honor,” association President David Exley said.

Pierce is a 1992 graduate of East Laurens Comprehensive High School in Dublin and Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science. A licensed funeral director and embalmer, he is general manager of Dorchester Funeral Home in Midway and L.M. Pierce Funeral Home Inc. He also serves on the Liberty County Hospital Authority, as second vice president of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers, a member of the Midway Middle School Board Council and a member of Limerick Lodge 437 Free & Accepted Masons.

He is married to Carolyn Pierce, and together they have five children, Shundrekia, Shanesse, Anthony, Tytiana and Reginald Jr.
