Liberty Transit is participating in the 12th annual National Dump the Pump Day, an effort to get more people out of their cars and on board public transit. That means riding a Liberty Transit bus will be free all day Thursday, according to Hinesville public relations manager Brittany Denney.

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association, the first Dump the Pump Day was in 2006, when gas prices were $3 a gallon.

According to APTA, now a two-person household can save an average of more than $9,823 annually by downsizing to one car.

Liberty Transit operates from 5:50 a.m. to 7:56 p.m. Monday through Friday in Hinesville, Flemington, Walthourville and Fort Stewart.

Regular fare is $1, though discounts are available for senior citizens, Medicare cardholders and those with disabilities.

For more information about the routes call 912-877-1472 or visit www.libertytransit.org.
