The city of Hinesville is celebrating Georgia Cities Week through Sunday by participating in a variety of events throughout the week, including a special-themed Farmers Market Thursday.

Hosted by the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority from 4-7 p.m. in Bradwell Park, guests at the Georgia Cities Week Farmers Market can stroll through a display of city vehicles, including a fire truck, police car and city bus. Children can color crafts in the city tent, where participants can also pick up free tote bags or coozies while supplies last.

The city kicked off Georgia Cities Week on Saturday with a city-wide Great American Cleanup, put on by Keep Liberty Beautiful. Other events during the week include:

• Mayor Allen Brown’s State of Hinesville Address, Thursday at noon at the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce’s Progress Through People Luncheon at Connection Church on Patriots Trail in Flemington. This event is sponsored by CH2M Hill, the city’s contracted public-works department. RSVPs were due earlier.

• Read Across Liberty, also Thursday, hosted by United Way. Read Across Liberty is a countywide event to promote early childhood literacy by reading to students at local schools.

• Earth Day Celebration is from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Friday at the Liberty County YMCA soccer fields on Mary Lou Drive. Put on by Keep Liberty Beautiful, the city will be out in force with booths showcasing city services in a fun and family friendly way along with several other community organizations.
