Highway 57 in Long County is still closed to traffic due to a standoff about four miles outside of Ludowici.

According to Long County Sheriff Craig Nobles, a man claiming to have explosives strapped to his body has caused law enforcement officials to seal off Highway 57 near Gordon Road.

The man, who has not been identified, was seen standing on the heavily traveled highway as members of bomb dispoal teams from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Fort Stewart tried to reason with him.

The standoff began sometime around noon and has continued through the evening. A member of the Wayne County Emergency Management Office was seen driving flood lights to the scene.
