Long County Commissioner Bobby Walker, a former chairman of the comission, has resigned.

Long County Administrator Frank Etheridge announced the resignation Tuesday afternoon. Walker “...resigned from the Long County Board of Commissioners District 5 seat effective immediately,” an email from Etheridge said.

No reason was given, though when reached by a reporter late Tuesday afternoon Walker said he would provide a statement in an email. That email did not arrive prior to the Courier’s deadline.

Walker reportedly met with the commission Tuesday morning to work on the Long County budget. After a few minutes he got up, left the room and was seen walking around the halls.

Soon he came back into the meeting room, handed a piece of paper to Long County Clerk MaryAnn Odum and departed. Walker was re-elected to the post in November. In 2010, Walker resigned an earlier stint as chairman, but remained on the commission.
