Long County officials on full alert

Long County Emergency Management Director Edward Brewer said officials there are monitoring the storm and will make a decision sometime within the next 24 hours regarding mandatory evacuations.

Brewer said if they require an evacuation, it would affect residents in low lying areas of the county prone to flooding and would also include residents that are home bound and the elderly.

“Nothing has been open as of yet,” Brewer said regarding shelters and adding they are in a wait and see status. “However we are prepared, if need be, to start mandatory evacuations. We will know by noon tomorrow.”

Long County Schools are closed Friday. Brewer said the Long County School System may decide to close earlier, but that decision won’t be made until later.

Saturday’s Wildlife Festival has been cancelled.

“We will activate the EOC Thursday afternoon,” Brewer said.
