Ludowici woman dies in wreck
Wayne-Co-fatal-2

A three-vehicle wreck in Wayne County killed a Ludowici woman Wednesday evening, authorities said.
Tracy Eileen Helveston, of Frazier Harris Road Northeast in Ludowici, was driving a white 2005 Toyota Tundra eastbound on Highway 84 during a heavy downpour shortly before 6 p.m. when the pickup truck hydroplaned and slid into the oncoming lane near J.L. Harris Road, just outside the Screven city limits, according to a Wayne County Sheriff’s Office accident report. A westbound red 2003 Mazda B3000 struck the Toyota, causing the pickup truck to spin out of control and be struck in the passenger side by a black
1995 Dodge Ram 1500.
That impact sent the Toyota into a further spin, and it slammed into the Mazda before both of those vehicles came to rest across the westbound lanes of Highway 84 along with the Ram, the report says.
Wayne County EMS and Pierce County EMS took everyone in the wrecked vehicles, except the Mazda driver, to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The Mazda driver declined to be transported.
Helveston, who was unresponsive and not breathing at the scene, was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the report.
Wayne County EMS Director Richard Johnson said Helveston was traveling with her husband and two grandchildren.
