Man accidentally shot

A man spent the Fourth of July in the hospital after being accidentally shot during a house party near Gum Branch. The incident occurred before 9 p.m. in the 1000 block of Ruben Wells Road.

Tavis Gary, 38 was accidentally shot in his right leg while his friend Sheldon Johnson, 45 was placing a handgun into a holster Gary was wearing, according to Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Detective, Capt. Tracy Jennings.

Jennings said the men were handling the weapon prior to it being holstered. It accidentally discharged driving one round into Gary's leg.

Gary was taken to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville by his girlfriend in a privately owned vehicle. Later he was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

Gary has posted photos on his Facebook page alerting his friends and family that he is well.

Jennings said the case is currently under investigation.
