Hinesville Mayor Jim Thomas has been selected as president of the Southeast Georgia Friends of Fort Stewart and Hunter.
Thomas joined the organization more than four years ago and has more than 40 years of public service. He was an Army officer and a federal employee before he was elected mayor. He also serves on many local community-improvement committees and business organizations.
Thomas said he feels at home in his new position.
“It’s great to be here, and I’m looking forward to working with local businesses,” he said. “Every business that has customers connected to Fort Stewart or Hunter Army Airfield should belong to this forward-thinking organization.  We have an incredible community with unlimited growth opportunities, and we need to work together to keep it growing.”
“Jim brings much to the table for Friends of Fort Stewart and Hunter,” said Paul M. Andreshak, the organization’s executive director. “His reputation as a community leader and his talent as a communicator will be an incredible asset to the organization.  We are excited that he has accepted the leadership position of the team.”
The nonprofit organization is dedicated to enhancing the overall economic value of Fort Stewart and the surrounding communities through progressive regional relationships.
