Today is the National Day of Prayer, and there are several local observances.

In 1952, Congress designated the first Thursday in May as a time for people “to turn to God in prayer in meditation.”

Local observances include:

- At 11:30 a.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church, 34 Factory St. SW, Ludowici, followed by a noon program at the Long County Courthouse, 49 S. McDonald St. in Ludowici

- At 11:45 a.m. today, on the steps of the Liberty County Courthouse, 100 S. Main St. in Hinesville, hosted by the United Ministerial Alliance of Liberty County

- From noon to 12:30 p.m. at Riceboro Creek
