According to a news release from the Liberty County School System, the district is presently on high alert regarding the forecast for a winter storm watch beginning Tuesday afternoon, January 28, 2014. District leaders areclosely watching the evolving weather advisories and warnings. With student safety asthe top priority, LCSS has to make a decision about cancelling or delaying school based onwhat's best for the whole community. LCSS is communicating with public safety officials andneighboring school districts to monitor conditions and make the best possible decision.

LCSS balances a combination of ambient temperature, wind chill, road conditions and precipitation when considering a delay or cancellation. District leaders also consult with meteorologists and the Liberty County Department of Transportation in order to make a decision as early as possible. LCSS also respects the right of each family to make a choice based on what they feel is best for the safety of their own children.

The decision to close schools will be made between now and 5:00 A.M. Wednesday morning.

School closings or delays will be announced through the LCSS One Call Now automated calling system, the district website at www.liberty.k12.ga.us and local media outlets (WTOC, WJCL, WSAV).  For more information, please contact John Lyles at jlyles@liberty.k12.ga.us, 912-876-2161.
