Fort Stewart is conducting controlled burns today, according to a news release from the post.

The first burn is on 7,052 acres about 10 miles north of the cantonement area and nine miles north-northwest of the Lawson fire tower.

The flames will be visible from Highway 119.

The release said the second burn is on 1,706 acres about 10 miles north-northeast of the cantonement area and 9 miles northeast of the Lawson fire tower. The flames will not be visible from Highway 144.

The release did not estimate where smoke will blow.
